Description: The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) is responsible for the protection and management of natural systems and water quality within its geographic boundaries. One component of evaluating the ecological health of coastal ecosystems is to map and monitor submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) communities. The area of interest includes the mid-shore coastal waters of the District within Citrus and Hernando counities. Estuaries in the geographic area of interest include the Chassahowitzka River, Homosassa River, and the Weeki Wachee River. The project area includes 1,454 cells (approximately 1,304 square miles) and extends from roughly 5 miles offshore to a maximum of 15 miles offshore. Seagrass data were photointerpreted from one foot resolution RGB 5000 x 5000 foot tiles flown in January 2012 and IKONOS satellite imagery (1mresolution, multispectral).The minimum mapping unit for classification was 0.25 acres.
